Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Whether you're learning to drive for the first time, looking for an intensive course, or simply have a question about driving lessons, we've answered some of the most common questions below.

Getting Started

How do I book driving lessons?

Booking is simple. Complete our online enquiry form, give us a call or send us a message through our website or social media. We'll match you with one of our experienced instructors in your area and arrange your first lesson at a time that suits you.

Do I need a provisional licence before starting lessons?

Yes. You must hold a valid UK provisional driving licence before taking lessons on public roads. If you haven't applied yet, you can apply online through the GOV.UK website.

What should I bring to my first driving lesson?

All you need is your provisional driving licence (or licence number if requested) and a pair of comfortable, flat-soled shoes. Your instructor will explain everything else.

What happens during my first driving lesson?

Your instructor will introduce themselves, carry out a quick eyesight check, explain the controls of the car and assess your previous experience. Most learners drive the car during their very first lesson.

Driving Lessons

Do you offer manual and automatic driving lessons?

Yes. We offer both manual and automatic driving lessons with qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructors. Automatic lessons are available in Colchester and East London areas.

Which is better – manual or automatic?

It depends on your goals. A manual licence allows you to drive both manual and automatic cars, while an automatic licence only allows you to drive automatic vehicles.

How long are your driving lessons?

We offer flexible lesson lengths to suit your learning style. Most learners choose two-hour lessons as they provide excellent value and allow more time to practise.

How many driving lessons will I need?

Every learner is different. Some people learn more quickly than others depending on previous experience, confidence and how often they practise. Your instructor will regularly review your progress and advise when you're ready for your practical test.

Can I choose my instructor?

We'll always do our best to match you with the instructor that best suits your location, availability and learning style.

Can I request a male or female instructor?

Yes. Subject to availability, we'll always do our best to accommodate your preference.

Can you collect me from home, work, college or school?

Yes. We offer flexible pick-up and drop-off locations within your lesson area where practical.

Do you offer evening and weekend lessons?

Yes. Many of our instructors offer lessons during evenings and weekends, although availability varies by location.

Do you teach nervous drivers?

Absolutely. Many of our pupils begin with little or no confidence. Our patient instructors will help you learn at your own pace in a calm, supportive environment.

Can I change instructors if I'm not happy?

Yes. Your learning experience is important to us. If you feel another instructor would suit you better, we'll happily arrange this wherever possible depending on location and availability.

Theory Test

Can I start practical lessons before passing my theory test?

Yes. Most learners begin practical lessons before taking their theory test. However, you'll need to pass your theory test before you can book your practical driving test.

Can you help me prepare for my theory test?

Yes. Your instructor can provide advice and guidance during lessons, and we'll recommend useful resources to help you prepare.

Practical Driving Test

When will I be ready for my driving test?

Your instructor will only recommend taking your test when you're consistently driving to a safe standard and have an excellent chance of passing.

Can I use my instructor's car for my driving test?

Yes. As long as your instructor believes you're test-ready, you'll normally use the same vehicle you've been learning in. - We do not hire cars just for tests.

What happens if I fail my driving test?

Don't worry—many excellent drivers don't pass first time. Your instructor will discuss the feedback from the examiner, focus on any areas for improvement and help you prepare for your next test.

How long is the practical driving test?

The practical driving test lasts around 40 minutes and includes independent driving, manoeuvres and one "Show Me, Tell Me" vehicle safety question.

What are the Show Me, Tell Me questions?

These are simple vehicle safety questions asked by the examiner. Your instructor will ensure you're fully prepared before your test.

Intensive & Guaranteed Pass Courses

Do you offer intensive driving courses?

Yes. We offer intensive courses designed to help learners pass in a shorter timeframe. Course availability depends on instructor availability and practical test dates.

What is your Guaranteed Pass Course?

Our Guaranteed Pass Course offers complete peace of mind by providing unlimited driving lessons and practical driving tests for up to 12 months, subject to the course terms and conditions. Speak to us for full details.
